2024 Ford Maverick: New Ford Maverick Lightning Special Review

Posted on

2024 Ford Maverick has a very successful lineup of pickup trucks, including the compact Maverick and midsize Ranger. Both trucks have different advantages, but for this article, we will highlight the edges of the Maverick. Here are four benefits that the Ford Maverick 2023 has over the redesigned Ford Ranger 2024.

The first advantage of the Ford Maverick 2023 over the Ford Ranger 2024 is that the Maverick has a higher fuel economy than the Ranger. Most pickup trucks have low mileage, but the Maverick defies expectations with its efficient hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid powertrain, which comes standard on the Maverick, allows the truck to get an estimated fuel economy of up to 42 mpg city/33 highway. Also, Maverick offers a full gas-powered model. While less efficient than the Maverick Hybrid, it gets an estimated mileage of up to 23 mpg city/30 highway, which is higher than most trucks.

In comparison, the Ranger gets an estimated fuel economy of up to 21 mpg on city/26 highway. With gasoline prices so high these days, an efficient truck like the Maverick means savings at the fuel pump.

The third advantage of the Maverick 2023 over the Ranger 2024 is that the Maverick has a more versatile pickup bed than the Ranger. This flexibility can be credited to Maverick’s innovative FLEXBED, which has a variety of features to organize and secure cargo, as well as accommodate accessories.

The FLEXBED offers versatile configurations and the ability to slide a 2×4 or 2×6 into the slot — providing flexibility for different uses. This includes segmented storage, DIY solutions, and racks for bicycles and other outdoor gear.

Furthermore, in various parts of Maverick, there are QR codes. Owners can scan this code with their smartphone and then view ideas for DIY projects — with parts lists and instructions.

Maverick 2023’s fourth advantage over Ranger 2024 is that Maverick is more maneuverable than Ranger. This maneuverability is due to the Maverick’s smaller size, lower weight, and tighter turning circle compared to the Ranger.

The Maverick’s greater maneuverability is beneficial in several ways. This includes parking, reversing the truck, driving in city traffic, and navigating twists and turns.

The Ford Maverick 2023 has advantages over the Ford Ranger 2024 in terms of fuel economy, affordability, a more versatile pickup bed, and maneuverability. This is an advantage to consider when deciding which pickup truck to buy.

With a starting price of just over $20,000 and the ability to travel around 600 miles on a full tank in the real world, no other pickup on the market is as efficient or affordable as the Ford Maverick hybrid.

Those willing to forgo its monocoque chassis will find a pickup capable enough for 90% of most people’s daily needs. But if the Maverick hybrid was a groundbreaking pickup, the all-electric Maverick Lightning would be something else altogether.

Ford filed a trademark for the name recently, suggesting that the smallest electric pickup Americans have ever seen is on its way. This is what we can expect from him.

New Ford Maverick Lightning Exterior And Colors

2024 Ford Maverick Exterior Our electric Maverick rendering gives an idea of what the final product will look like. We expect the exterior of the Ford Maverick Lightning to have the same basic shape as the regular Maverick, but with details like special wheels, a closed grille, and unique lighting markings to set it apart.

It should also be marked as a Lightning model, as is the case with the F-150 Lightning. Of course, there will also be a port for charging.

If the Ford Maverick Lightning colors mirror the standard Maverick colors, we can expect shades like Velocity Blue, Area 51, and possibly Cyber Orange.

Ford Maverick Lightning Dimensions

There shouldn’t be any surprises here as the dimensions of the Ford Maverick Lightning are unlikely to deviate much from a normal Maverick.

The latter has a wheelbase of 121.1 inches and measures 199.7 inches long, 83.5 inches wide including the mirrors, and 68.7 inches high. The normal Maverick is only available in the SuperCrew guise so these specs don’t vary as much as the F-150 with some of its body styles.

The weight-limiting possibilities where Maverick Lightning will differ the most. The heaviest Maverick is currently 3,731 pounds, which goes for the EcoBoost with AWD. We can imagine the Maverick Lightning with AWD hitting 4,000 lbs.

Ford Maverick Lightning Engine And Performance

The Ford Maverick shares a unibody platform based on a front-wheel drive with the Bronco Sport and Escape. Accommodating an electric motor or two instead of a normal Ford Maverick engine would require quite a bit of work, but the C2 platform is known to adapt to a wide range of wheelbases, track widths, and vehicle sizes. Presumably, it can also support full electrification.

Whereas the F-150 Lightning only has dual electric motors, the Maverick Lightning will likely start with a single electric motor. The Maverick emphasizes more value than top performance or a fast 0-60 mph time, which is reflected in the hybrid’s modest 191 horsepower mix.

The base Mustang Mach-E has one electric motor that makes 266 hp, and that would be more than enough for the Maverick Hybrid. We’ll have to wait and see if AWD is standard or optional for the Maverick Lightning.

Range, Charge, and Battery Life

The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning are very different vehicles but both can reach over 300 miles on a full charge depending on trim and battery. We’d be surprised if the Maverick Lightning wasn’t at least capable, and the expected higher price should offset the Maverick hybrid’s stellar mpg rating.

A charging speed of 150 kW should allow owners to get close to the maximum charge state in about 45 minutes, but again, neither of these figures is nearly confirmed. Ford may have increased its charging speed by the time the Maverick Lightning arrived.

Ford Maverick Lightning Interior And Cargo

Despite the low price, we were very impressed when we walked into Maverick. The 2024 Ford Maverick Interior of the new Ford Maverick Lightning should have the same features that fascinated us.

2024 Ford Maverick

That includes a highly functional design, a user-friendly eight-inch touchscreen interface, and plenty of storage space that will keep a family happy. As is often the case with EVs, we suspect the Maverick Lightning will push the technology envelope a little further. It may get a larger touchscreen and access to Blue Cruise’s advanced hands-free driver assistance system.

The seats of the Ford Maverick Lightning should be comfortable in leather or faux leather on the top trim, and while we found the space in the normal Maverick to be good in the second row, it couldn’t match the larger pickups in these areas.

One of the main advantages is the cargo space of the Ford Maverick Lightning. We didn’t expect it to have the bulk of the F-150 Lightning, but it should still be a welcome addition to the bed in the back.

Speaking of beds, the standard Maverick has a 4.5-foot bed with a volume of 33.3 cubic feet. That’s not much for a truck, but then again, the Maverick is much easier to maneuver than the F-150.

2024 Ford Maverick Price

The second advantage of the Ford Maverick 2023 over the Ford Ranger 2024 is that the Maverick is more affordable than the Ranger. Pricing information is not yet available for both models. However, for the 2022 model year, the Maverick is – by far – the cheapest pickup truck available in the United States. We hope this continues.

The starting price of the Maverick 2022 is $20.995 MSRP. For comparison, the starting price for the 2022 Ranger is $25,930 MSRP for the Super Cab model and $28,115 MSRP for the SuperCrew model.

The new Ford Maverick Lightning pickup truck will likely outperform the petrol and hybrid models. We already know, for example, that the F-150 Lightning is about $9,000 more expensive than the regular F-150. But it’s also a much bigger truck.

If Ford can keep the Maverick’s high-value price tag and bring in the Maverick Lightning from around $30,000, we’re sure many hesitant buyers will take the plunge and move to an EV.

Currently, a Maverick Lariat with an EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive will cost under $30,000 MSRP. Either way, the price of the Ford Maverick Lightning 2024 will largely determine its success.

Currently, there is no direct rival to Maverick Lightning.
