2021 Ford Edge Price Ford announced that they will focus on a few specific categories as they prepare to release several new models on the automotive world by 2020. The SUV Revolution has also already started with the brand new EcoSport and Expedition and the imminent arrival of the newest Ford Edge series in 2019. The model year 2019 will also see all new versions of the Ford Escape and Ford Explorer. As intrigued as we are by the ST, however, our tester this day is the high-end titanium topping with front traction. Full traction is an option $1 995. Ford seems to be trying really hard to position some of its products against Audis, and the Edge is a solid example of this tactic. It certainly has a high-end design, as the big grid, the foreground pleats, and the piercing headlights underline. Inside it feels less Audi-like, which is fine. Aim high and fall a little short; This is not a luxury crossover. Decent materials. Intuitive layout. Not as high as the outside, but still competitive in the classroom. It is a Peppy driver, with a lot of juice from the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that marries well with the eight-speed auto. This powertrain feels prime, actually. There’s more Get-Up in this thing than I expected, and I guess that’s the engine most people want (the ST is high power, but do you really need that in an Edge?). Overall I enjoyed my night at the edge. It’s comfortable, strong and rather fun to drive. It’s even vaguely Audi.

My expectations for Ford SUVs are never high, but they always seem to overtake them. I went on the press launches for the last two getaways and I found that I liked them both a bit. The sampling of the expedition went better than expected. I even found a thing or two to love the little confounding EcoSport. The Edge was the same story. I came home to bring him home and put him in sports mode. I was completely surprised by the answer. He held Revs, and the engine jumped enthusiastically to life with a throttle tap. I found that I had to turn it off in traffic-it was just too nervous for the stop-and-go drive. The sport has been a great way to dice through road traffic, however.

The Edge also gave me my first opportunity to use the cordless phone refill in a car. After my iPhone 7s auto-destructed, I recently upgraded to the 8. I was surprised to see it starting to load when I hid it in the storage bin below the central stack. I didn’t know my phone, or this car could do it. According to my calculations at the end of the order, I was taking about 1 percent of the battery every two minutes when I left it there. The technology is pretty great.

Other than that, however, I found the edge to be a bit forgettable. Still, it was better than I expected, especially with the right pedal.

Again, I found myself conquered by Ford’s EcoBoost engines. This edge with the 2.0-liter turbocharger is, as the 2.7-liter F-150 We just had, all the crossover you need in the Power department. It makes 250 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque, and everything feels a bit more powerful than the numbers suggest. The engine is very responsive, and the power and torque remain strong through most of the Rev band. It is also supported by a transmission that has smooth shifts and chooses gears judiciously. Even in sports mode, it changed just when I wanted, which is important because there are no pallets for manual movement.

I also appreciated that it rolls gently and quietly while remaining quite composed and disposed to corner. However, the rest of the Edge is less impressive. The interior is aging with many intermediate black plastics and a particularly archaqué vertically oriented dashboard design. The outside is perfectly fine, but not particularly memorable. The older edges with more BrightWork and huge wheels are more distinctive. Yet the Edge is a solid choice in the medium-sized segment for space, comfort and some soft powertrains groups. It’s just a little forgettable, that’s all.
